Greetings and welcome! I am Petite Plus Model: Monique C. Gaines. My career as a model started completely by chance. After winning concert tickets during the intermission of the first Full Figured Fierce charity fashion event in 2015, I stepped out on faith and joined the ladies of Full Figured Fierce. Shortly after, I was selected to become a member of Alabama's elite plus modeling team, The Runway Killers. Soon I was named as one of the Brand Ambassadors of Full Figured Fierce.
Being a part of this team has afforded me the opportunity to become a brand ambassador for Classic Maven Boutique in Jacksonville, FL where I was able to be seen and recognized by Supermodel Cynthia Bailey. I was also selected to walk for Lane Bryant's first time showing in Huntsville, AL. I have also been recognized by New York & Company and Gabrielle Union for replicating her advertisement for New York & Company.
During my first year of modeling, I also became a member of Alabama Fashion Alliance (AFA). For my two-year stint with AFA, I met Mychael Knight of "Project Runway" and walked for several local designers and retail establishments I appeared in Alabama Fashion Week (2016,2017) and Alabama Fashion WeekEND (2017).
While I love the runway, working with various photographers has its own rewards. Most notably I had the opportunity to shoot with Rick D. Jones (whose work has been published in "VOGUE" magazine) and give real-world application to the training I received from Walk Like HER (Model and Confidence Class taught by Dionne Reeves-Grubbs) & Life of a Working Model Bootcamp (taught by Liris Crosse). I've relished the experience to step off of the runway and in front of the camera, but the fun doesn't stop there.
I am on a crusade to educate the fashion industry about the plight of the #tweenie. Some may say I am too short to model at all. Some say that I am too small to be considered "plus size" and most say that I am too big to be "standard". Buying clothes has its own hurdles when you are between sizes and heights. As a result it is my mission to make it known that #tweenies have a place in this fashion world. Sizes and heights are only numbers. But fashion truly is universal!
With a fun loving and out spoken personality, I have also been asked to host several events from the Curvy Girl Walk Off by Full Figured Fierce, Alabama Black Expo, as well as a book launch for "Beyond Existence: The Purple Passage" by Kerri Davis , the red carpet for the events for the March on Selma 2019, and the Zenzele Online Shopping events and many other events.
As a result I have become the third co host of the podcast Let Me Tell You Something where we talk about everything from the latest Netflix show, to politics, to music and everything else in between.
As someone who is always seeing the world through a colorful and loving eye, I have also become the Assistant Director of Ka Le Cha Modeling Agency where we have a roster of gorgeous and handsome models ages 30 and up.
I am Monique C. Gaines, petite plus model and I'm just getting started...
